Micklegate Bar is a historic building positioned in the city walls, and features uneven floors, narrow staircases and small spaces.
The nature of the building means that it is inaccessible to wheelchair users and may create barriers for visitors with physical disabilities.
There are no customer toilets at the City Walls Experience due to the nature and size of the building. The closest public toilets can be found at Nunnery Lane Public Toilets.
Wheelchair and mobility scooter users
Due to the historic nature of the building, Micklegate Bar is only accessible by steps and has no lift.
Guide dogs and assistance dogs
Guide and assistance dogs are welcome at City Walls Experience. Dog bowls are available at the front desk, please ask a member of staff.
Blind or visually impaired visitors
Large print and braille guides are available at the admissions desk upon request.
There is seating available throughout City Walls Experience.
A visual story is available to download here as a pre-visit guide to what a typical visit should be like and what you will encounter. These are also available on request from our reservations department either by email or a printed version can be posted out to you.
City Walls Experience operates a sticker system for visitors, should you wish to participate. If you are wearing a red sticker it shows you do not wish to be approached; a yellow sticker means you would like staff to answer questions when asked; green or no sticker means you are happy to be approached and spoken to. Please request one of these at admissions if this will enhance your visit.
Sensory packs are available at all our admissions desks subject to availability on the day. They contain a set of ear defenders and various tactile & visual items, some of which can be bought from our shop. City Walls Experience tends to be a quiet attraction; however, if you do need to leave for any reason then you can. Your ticket is valid for 12 months and you can return within that time.
There is no admissions charge for visitors under 5 years old and small children are welcome in the attractions. Due to the nature of the building, access for pushchairs to Micklegate Bar is limited and there is no storage space for pushchairs, and there are no baby changing facilities. Breastfeeding is welcome at our attraction.
We have ear defenders, braille guides, a tablet with supporting materials, sensory packs and a visual story available for our walking tours.
We offer an accessible alternative to our walking tours for wheelchair users. Please contact our reservations department on 01904615505 or at firstname.lastname@example.org to book one of our accessible walking tours.
